Quick answer
SwimCloud is the better tool for college recruiting and for high school and college results. Gophin is the better tool for age-group club swimmers: it compares every best time against USA Swimming, Swimming Canada and provincial standards, follows several swimmers in one account, and is completely free. Many families use both: SwimCloud for recruiting, Gophin for cuts and progress.
If your family already uses SwimCloud, you do not need to switch anything. The honest question is whether Gophin answers something SwimCloud does not, and where SwimCloud is simply the better choice.

Where SwimCloud is the better choice
College recruiting. This is SwimCloud's home turf, and nothing in Gophin replaces it. A free recruit profile puts a swimmer in front of college coaches, lets them email programs, share video and set communication preferences. The paid Varsity upgrade adds "who's interested in me," team fit and retention data. SwimCloud's recruiting page lists it at $49; the same page says "Lifetime for $49" in one place and "$49/yr" in the plan table, so confirm the terms at checkout.
The Power Index. SwimCloud's recruiting score gives points to a swimmer's best events based on how close they are to the times needed to qualify for the NCAA Division I Championships, then combines them into one number, calculated separately for each graduation class (SwimCloud's explanation). College coaches know it and use it. If your swimmer is 15 or older and thinking about college, you will want to know that number.
High school and college meets. SwimCloud also sells team management and meet management software, and its results pages list US high school dual meets day by day, so dual meets and invitationals often appear there first. Gophin's US data is centred on USA Swimming club meets; high school dual meets are thin.
Where Gophin is the better choice
Knowing exactly which cuts your swimmer has, and how far the next one is. For an 11-year-old chasing an A time, a Sectionals cut or a provincial standard, this is the question that matters every weekend. Gophin puts each best time next to the standard for the swimmer's age and gender and shows the gap in seconds. It covers the full USA Swimming ladder and, for Canadian families, Swimming Canada plus provincial standards from Swim Ontario, Swim BC, Swim Alberta, QuĂŠbec and the other provinces. What neither one does
Neither is a live results app. During a meet, parents still use Meet Mobile, SwimTopia or the host's live results page, then SwimCloud and Gophin pick the results up once the official file is published. Which one fits your family
- Your swimmer is 8 to 14 and races club meets: Gophin. The questions at this age are "Did she get her B time?" and "How far is the A?", and that is what Gophin answers.
- Your swimmer is in high school and thinking about college: SwimCloud for recruiting, without question. Keep Gophin for standards like Futures, Sectionals and Junior Nationals, which are still the meets that get a swimmer noticed.
- You have two or three swimmers, or you coach a group: Gophin, for following everyone in one place.
- You are in Canada: Gophin for provincial and Swimming Canada standards; SwimCloud if your swimmer is heading to a US college.
Using both
This is the setup many families end up with, and it costs nothing extra:
