A final time hides the race. Splits show whether the first half was faster (positive split) or the back half was faster (negative split). Sign in to Gophin, open Analysis then Splits Analytics, pick the event and race. Official splits load. No typing.
After a 100 Free, the question is rarely the 1:02. It is the two 50s. Went out in 29 and came home in 33? That is a different story from even 31s. Parents hear "faded" when the first 50 was the real problem. Why a swimmer slows down in the second half walks through that trap.

Positive split vs negative split
Positive split: first half faster than the second. Negative split: back half faster. Most age-group 50s and 100s come home slower. That is normal. The useful question is whether the pattern repeats.
Read splits in Gophin
- Sign in and go to Analysis, then Splits Analytics.
- Set course, stroke, and distance, then pick a race that recorded splits.
- Pacing: each bar is a split against that race's own average. Green is faster than average, red is slower. The label names the pattern.
- PR vs Race: this swim against the personal best, split by split.
- Fatigue: how much the back half has slowed, race after race, across seasons.
- Goal Engine: pick a target time. The view shows the weakest split against real swimmers in the same age range.

If a race is missing, the meet probably did not record splits. Try another distance. Full screenshots live in the Splits Analytics wiki guide .
